Hurry to Help Name Tampa Int’l Airport’s Flamingo

One of the excellent art addition to an airport this past 12 months is a 21-foot-tall flamingo in the major terminal at Tampa International Airport (TPA).

While the paintings by means of Mathew Mazzotta is called Home, the flamingo itself arrived anonymous. So a few weeks lower back, Tampa International Airport invited the public to provide you with a few suggestions.

And, wow, they did.

The panel of judges become confronted with more than 65,000 entries. And, after an initial delay, has now settled on 3 finalists: Cora, Finn, and Phoebe.

Here’s the reasoning in the back of those pointers:

  • Cora – Submitted via Glorianne P.: “Because the reliable call of the art piece is ‘Home’, we will make bigger on that and don't forget the word ‘Home is Where the Heart is.’ Cora is brief for Corazon, which translates to heart in Spanish.
  • Finn – Submitted through Braxton W.: “Finn the flamingo has the proper ring to it. Every time I see a flamingo, it looks as if they've fins on their ft that they forgot to take off. It constantly makes me giggle.”
  • Phoebe – Submitted by way of James M.: “A play on Phoenicopterus – the flamingo’s scientific name ‘Phoebe’ is also a playful alliterative to flamingo and way brilliantly inquisitive. The overall ‘Home’ sculpture is literally high-quality and famous the flamingo’s inquisitiveness as it hunts for food in the shallows.”
